New Great price Mentor Mechanical is fantastic. Excellent customer service. Very professional and experienced workers. I had a clogged bathtub and non functional toilet in a new apt I moved into. They came the day after I called and took care of what was not an easy job. They were patient and cleaned up after themselves. Overpriced | $1,600–1,800 My toilet clogged, and I needed it replaced quickly. Mentor came the next day and installed a new unit, but he overcharged me for the toilet ($500 for the cheapest unit from Home Depot, which costs $150). He also charged a premium for installation ($1000) and did a shitty job. Less than a year later, the toilet started leaking because the wax ring wasn't installed properly. Instead of fixing it at no charge, Mentor wouldn't even provide a quote. I chased him for a day until I found someone else who could do a proper job at a reasonable price. Services Toilet repair

Reasonable price Called Mentor Mechanical for a clogged toilet and they had it cleared quickly and professionally. During the work my toilet bowl was damaged — and that's actually why I'm writing this review. They took full responsibility right away, repaired everything, and replaced the bowl with a brand new one at no hassle to me. Anyone can do a good job when nothing goes wrong. What tells you about a company is how they handle it when something does. These folks were above expectations. Highly recommend. Services Toilet repair

Reasonable price | $1,400–1,600 These folks replaced the vanity in my prewar coop. Many of the quotes I received for the job made me feel like others simply didn’t want to do the work. Mentor got it done and at a competitive price. They had to adapt the vanity to fit the drainpipe running perpendicular to the taps. All in all, they made it work, so kudos to them. Overpriced | $1,200–1,400 Extremely disappointing experience. The plumber cut into our vanity without our permission, and left the cut jagged and unfinished. The edge is sharp enough that we have actually gotten cut on it, and the drawer no longer closes properly because of the work. We contacted the company to address the damage, but they have not responded to our emails or calls. Mistakes can happen, but refusing to communicate or take responsibility afterward is unacceptable. I would not recommend this company based on our experience

I found Tom through an online search of top NYC plumbers that deal with condos/co-ops and COIs (certificate of insurance). Not only did his staff process that paperwork within half a day, but they kept me updated with next steps and progress. When he came to do the work he was very professional and personable and talked me through what he was doing which I appreciated. He was very knowledgeable and explained my drain to me which was a triple lever type. He was able to snake my drain so that the water was finally able to go down normally! No more showering in a pool of water!! Lastly, when I told him I would take care of cleaning up, he insisted that he wanted to clean up after his work. This was great and to me an indication that he takes pride in and cares about his work -it showed. I would definitely recommend him to friends and plan to use him for any future needs!!

Reasonable price Recently had a leak in the kitchen that I was worried would require removal of multiple cabinets. Bess (spelling?) and John came by and did a fantastic job. They only removed what was necessary to detect the leak (which did not end up requiring removal of the cabinets!) and everything was replaced when the job was done. Everyone was polite and courteous throughout the job. I felt like the job they did was thorough and price is reasonable for the amount of work that was done.
