New Reasonable price | $200–400 John MacDonald did a great job. We called about a problem we were having with the pressure in our water tank and he came right over. He fixed the problem . I would definitely recommend MacDonald plumbing. 👍

Overpriced | $200–400 Called for a check on my pressure tank he charged for a service call spent half the time trying to diagnose the problem never came to any conclusion spent the other half of time talking about possible problems and charged me another hour. He installed this pressure tank 6 years prior but the tank was too small for this size house he never mentioned that.He left saying that it could be a well pump problem but Later I found it was the small pressure tank which I would of been glad for him to replace . Unprofessional in my opinion and it was not right for extra charging me on top of the service charge. Now I had to hire someone else to put a larger pressure tank in . And now my hot water tank is leaking and I would of gave him that work too. He should do the right thing and talk less and the Fact of the Matter from what you just replied to this review is for a 4 bedroom 3 bath house with 4 people living there at that time you should of never installed a 19.8 gallon tank giving only 6 gallons witch should of been at least a 32 gallon or bigger any professional would of known that regardless of what was there before and with that small tank causing the well pump to constantly trying to recoup for the amount of water the house needs would put a strain on that well pump obviously you didn't want me to know that because of your prior mistake period

Business reply

McDonald Plumbing Inc.

Thanks Ralph. Fact in the matter is that the tank in your house which I replaced 6 years ago was with a tank that was exactly the same size that I took out. And so After many recent phone conversations with you beginning in July of 2026 to assess why during laundry sessions you were experiencing water pressure issues, we finally agreed to a service call and related hourly charges to field test and trouble shoot your water situation, which is exactly what we did. Thank you for that-call opportunity to assist, however I respectfully decline the water-heater task. I’m sorry that I cannot give you the answer about your water recovery in the well. I suggested during one of our conversations to the Dozens of questions I answered for you and offered an alternative to check things out under ground to avoid having to call a well company in to flow test and recovery test your water source. The cost relatively the same and many have found improvements from but you didn’t seem interested. Now it sounds that you’ve had someone else come sell you something and what’s being expressed isn’t fully truth. FYI the size of a dwelling in part does play part in tank size, however the number of occupants is more the relativity. And water source the dictator. As I recall it was and still is the same number of people in your house which is certainly within the expectation of the tank I installed in your dwelling. That size tank is being and has been used in many customers homes that have 4 or 5 people living in them full time. Should the number of occupants increase then that might change the configuration but just because occupants or dwelling is built, it dosent dictate that water will always be sufficient. Also more importantly a Wells capability’s are factored into the tank so it not to be “over-pumped” the water source. That is why generally the Well Driller is who sets up the tank size, Initially and the Plumber many decades later comes in to replace a broken leaky tank and he just takes out what’s there and puts in the same thing. Reinventing that wheel could be problematic and since you hadn’t any issues with the prior other than it leaked , the situation posed no real reason to reassess. 6 years ago. Alluding that I’ve mismanaged your water delivery creating your problems is unwarranted. At a25+ years-in service maybe your well or Well I’pump are tired.

Reasonable price Call John 1st and save yourself any hassle! We had a major plumbing disaster right after Christmas, and John absolutely saved us. He diagnosed about 99% of the issue over the phone using a few pictures and arrived with a solid plan already in place. The solution he delivered was even better than we expected. John is a true wealth of knowledge. He explained everything clearly about tanks, plumbing, and PEX systems, and spoke to us like real people, not a paycheck. I didn’t plan to hover, but his explanations were so helpful it was hard to walk away. Despite an overfilled schedule with other emergency calls, he fit us in the very next day. We were without water, stressed, and out of options, and he handled everything calmly, professionally, and without ever talking down to us. Just genuine help very reasonable quote and excellent work from start to finish. Highly recommend. Services Plumbing leak detection, Plumbing pipe repair

We had an issue with needing to have the drains replaced in my house. I called five other plumbers and had estimates done. Then, when I tried McDonald Plumbing, I got an answering service that told me someone would call me soon. John called me back and asked me a few questions. I assumed this was for him to be sure he had what he needed to do the job. We agreed on a schedule; he was right on time. His quote was $3,000 less than the others! I supervised the entire drain replacement. While this was going on, I got to know John better. This guy knows so much about plumbing; it's astounding. I learned aspects about it that I know other plumbers didn't know. When I came here to leave a review, I saw many reviews of people saying, "They wouldn't call anyone else." After him completing this work and talking with him about other projects I would need him for, I can see why. He doesn't overquote. He doesn't try to get you to replace things that aren't important. This is important; listen to him, you won't regret it. It's great to see that there are still honest family-owned businesses around. Thanks John!

We purchased a home this summer, and as part of the closing process, the seller had a new hot water heater installed through this company. We received the receipt and installation details at closing, including this company's information. Since moving in, we've experienced ongoing issues with the hot water supply. I am currently 8 months pregnant and unable to take a full hot shower, and my children often end up needing to take cold baths afterward. When I reached out to the company for help, they refused to come out to assess the situation unless I agreed in advance to a $300 service fee. The company is upfront blaming that the hot water heater is simply "undersized for our household needs" instead of checking on it. I've previously owned a home with a similarly sized water tank and never ran out of hot water at all, but regardless, I believe a company should stand by its work--especially when the installation is recent and the unit is still under warranty. At minimum, a basic service check should be offered without demanding a substantial fee upfront or placing the responsibility on the homeowner. The individual I spoke with on two separate occasions was dismissive and unprofessional, and did not take accountability for the situation. The interactions left me feeling uncomfortable and even intimidated to write a review, but I feel it's important to share my experience so others can make an informed decision and find a company that stands behind its work and treats customers with respect. To reply to the below-- Thank you for replying. I want to clarify a few points so that anyone reading this has the full picture. The length of my showers is only part of the concern. The issue is that the hot water does not seem to be functioning as expected, despite being newly installed for the sale of the home. I asked for someone to simply confirm that the unit was installed correctly — not to replace anything, not to repair anything, just to check the installation. That is what I meant by hoping the visit would be at no charge. I did not refuse an appointment until I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable and like I would not trust the individual I was speaking with to come out to my home. I expressed discomfort with having the same person come out after two separate phone calls where I felt dismissed, talked down to, and told repeatedly that I would “probably” owe $300 even before anyone had looked at anything. I asked for someone else to come instead, which I think is fair. I called back in October and we have tried to troubleshoot this issue ourselves since then. Ex. not running other appliances as we shower, timing showers. The way the service call fee was presented is what concerned me. I was told multiple times that I would be charged $300 if nothing was wrong, before anyone had seen the unit. That is unusual for a brand-new installation and felt more like a deterrent than help. My question was simply whether the installation itself could be checked without immediately assuming a charge. The comment about my previous home was misrepresented. I explained that my previous home had a similar-sized tank but never ran out this quickly — which is why I questioned whether this brand-new install was working as expected. Ten gallons should not make a dramatic difference. That was not meant to compare demand but to explain why this seemed unusual to me. I have also previously lived in other homes, apartments, etc. in various locations and have never experienced hot water loss like this. I only left this review because of the treatment during our conversations. Regardless of whether the unit is functioning “within normal operation,” the way I was spoken to made me uncomfortable. That is the part of this experience that prompted me to share my interaction. My top concerns are about professionalism, communication, and feeling dismissed instead of heard. I wanted a simple check to ensure everything was installed properly, and I didn’t expect to be treated poorly for asking that.

Business reply

McDonald Plumbing Inc.

Thank you for sharing. 1) You stated your water lasted 20-25 minutes in shower. I have the recorded call through my answering service. My response to you is this sounds normal for a 40 gallon electric unit. 2) I said I’d come check it out, but based on our conversation everything sounds within normal operation, So if upon arrival if there’s nothing to fix that you would have a service call fee. Should we need to trouble shoot/ field test the issue, I’d have to run the water until it ran out and according to you this should take 25 minutes. Then waiting for the water heat to naturally recover I’d expect that to take about 20-30 mins longer. To that a 1 hr charge would apply. You said that you didn’t have any money to spend as the home purchase has cost you more than you expected in repairs to date. 3) We spoke about this situation in October, at that time you were stating it was happening only in 1 shower, I at the time was thinking it may be a shower cartridge issue. To which You said you were going to get back to me. December is here and you called back today. We spoke about our last communication and your concerns are about the 20-25 minutes of hot water but now it’s happening in both showers. You state that you have many things to do in the shower and you’re not having enough time in water to do them. For this comment I express the notion that your tank is too small for the demand. You replied that your last house didn’t have this issues and you also said that the water tank was larger in your previous home. Also the “intimated to leave a review” comment… maybe it’s because we never met, I never serviced anything for you and that much of what you state is misleading and solely influenced by you state of frustration. Just so you and all the people you wish to inform with this review know, -When a waterheater is covered under warranty by its manufacturer, the Plumbers labor to repair manufacturers malfunctions isn’t free. That is assuming there is a discovered malfunction. To which the free appointment time I offered you next week was refused.

Called at 9:15am about a burst pipe under my house and was told it would be considered an emergency and that the tech would call me after his current call. I left work to wait, not getting paid for this time. I waited and called again at 1. I was told the same thing. I called again at 3, then again at 4 and no one could give me an answer. It is 5pm and still haven't received a call. Now I am waiting until morning for another plumber. Again, I won't be getting paid for this time off. I'm extremely dissatisfied and disappointed! Shameful "customer service "! Interesting how after "the hospital and a death in the family" you can't have your people call to cancel but you can respond to a review you don't like, for all to see.

Business reply

Anja, Sorry for your inconvenience. Sadly I was in the hospital all day today and unfortunately we had a death in the family. My Apologies for not prioritizing your crisis. On that note, after you left a message with my answering service we had no appointment, we never spoke or did any business and yet you took the time to leave this stunning review. I’d like to say Thank you for that snap sentiment of your true self for all to see publicly. I’m almost glad I hadn’t been able to meet you.
