New Overpriced | $1–200 Be warned! The fact that this company is getting 4.8 stars out of 5 on Google reviews says everything about what’s wrong with the internet nowadays. Since we and our regular plumber were on vacation that week, we called “A Good Plumber” for a first time estimate, and our neighbor showed them into the house. Unless we were duped by imposters, when we called the listed number for “A Good Plumber”, the telephone operators very promptly and glibly arranged an appointment for us. It was easy, maybe a little too much so. When they arrived at my home, the salesman announced he was a technician - careful not to say he was an actual plumber. He sounded to me like a young man who I’m convinced never plumbed in his life. He proceeded to lay it on thick and acted a little too familiar, which in retrospect was just salesmanship in the hopes they were going to land a sucker or homeowner desperate enough to pay for an extortionate fee. For what amounts to maybe about an hour’s worth of work to replace the trap under our basement bar sink when we upgraded to granite counter top we received a $2200 estimate from their sales “technician” which left me speechless. Because the work amounted to less than two feet of new pipe from the riser to the sink, there was nothing complicated about the job. At worst they might need to spend two hours since I also needed the old faucet mounted back on. In the end, I decided to wait for my regular plumber to return and he charged me $450 for the job. Since I’ve owned my home for 15 years and know the “biz” I quickly deduced this company is one of a number of residential contractors in NYC who prey on first time, inexperienced or desperate owners - probably many of them elderly - who have found a way to rig up positive reviews online and lure customers with their falsely positive online presence. I’ve gotten estimates from many such contractors over the years from drain cleaners, exterminators and roofers, some of whom barely know their trade yet want to charge top dollar. By now, I can smell them, like mice in the kitchen. I don’t know if “A Good Plumber” would have done a bad job, but I certainly wasn’t going to get suckered into paying them their egregiously high fee. Since we ended up waiting for our regular Plumber to come and do the job, as expected he charged me $450 when he got back from vacation. The experience left me angry that they wasted my time and angry that New Yorkers need to deal with such extortionate contractors who I basically consider criminals. As it is I had to pay for their house-call fee up front, and the experience left me so bothered that I plan to call them again to reverse this charge. When I think they made me pay for them to come to my home to try to extort a fee that was nearly six times higher than the job was worth, my blood boils If you want to learn from my experience, always get multiple estimates to triangulate whether you are dealing with criminal phishing enterprises like “A Good Plumber”. The proposal included more work than replacing the single pipe mentioned in your review. Presenting the broader proposal as a $1900 not $2200 charge to replace one pipe misrepresents the estimate. The actual price to replace all of those pipes—not just the one mentioned—was under $700, which was close to what you ultimately paid. You were given an estimate, declined it, and hired your regular plumber. That is your right. It does not justify calling our employees criminals, questioning their qualifications based on how young they sound, or accusing our company of targeting elderly homeowners and fabricating reviews. Your suggestion that you may have dealt with “imposters” makes no sense alongside your own account: you called our listed number, our office scheduled the appointment, and our employee arrived as scheduled. Nothing you describe supports an accusation of impersonation. Prompt scheduling and professional friendliness are not evidence of wrongdoing. Your assessment of what the job was “worth” also overlooks the cost of operating a licensed and insured plumbing business in New York City. Our pricing must cover qualified employees, insurance, vehicles, tools, office support, and the overhead required to deliver and stand behind our work. The length of pipe being replaced and your estimate of the time involved do not represent the full cost of providing that service. The scope of work you describe is not the same as the scope we proposed. Presenting these prices as a direct comparison without accounting for that difference is misleading. We cannot speak to another contractor’s licensing, insurance, or overhead, but a lower price for a different scope of work certainly does not establish fraud or extortion. You were presented with a price before proceeding and exercised your choice to decline it. We reject the unsupported accusations against our employees, our customers, and our family business.

New Reasonable price | $600–800 We found water leaking under our kitchen sink and onto the floor on a Friday morning. I called Big Apple, emailed them photos, and had a quote back within 15 minutes and a plumber at our place that afternoon. He confirmed what we'd spotted (a cracked drain elbow and a shutoff valve dripping onto an outlet in the cabinet) and fixed all of it, a few hours after my first call. Everything has worked perfectly since, and they followed up a few days later to make sure. Fast, clear, professional. I'd recommend them to anyone in the area.

New Great price This review is long overdue. When we moved into our new home a little over a year ago, we had no idea what plumbing nightmares were waiting for us. If we listed every issue over the last 13 months, you wouldn’t believe it. To give you a sense of scale, we have more than 175 emails with the owner of A Good Plumber, and that doesn’t count all the emails and calls with the rest of their team. Through all of it, A Good Plumber has been outstanding. They’re a family-owned business of master plumbers, and it shows. Whether it was Bill, Warren, Tommy, Josh, Mauricio, or another member of their crew, every one of them has been able to troubleshoot even the biggest head-scratchers. They explain things clearly, which matters a lot when you’re new homeowners trying to understand what’s going on behind your walls or under layers of concrete. Their work is consistently high quality, and Briana at the front desk is wonderfully communicative and keeps everything running smoothly. On top of all the random plumbing issues, they also installed our new boiler and gas lines, which meant carefully working through the DEP permit process. They handled it with real care and kept us informed every step of the way. Most of all, they’re lovely, trustworthy people who are truly invested in protecting us and our home. We honestly can’t imagine navigating the last 13 months and countless jobs without them, their empathy, and their quality work. New Overpriced | $1,800–2,000 I had a great experience with A Good Plumber Corp. They came out to repair a leak from the toilet. Turns out they needed to open the floor and repair the flange and piping in the bathroom floor. Josh was fantastic as normal. He walked me through the entire process before starting any work so I knew exactly what to expect. After having the floor itself repaired, Josh came back within just a couple of days to re-install the toilet. The price for the work might have been a little on the higher side, but the quality of the work is excellent, and it comes with a warranty which gives me great peace of mind. Highly recommend Josh and the team for their professionalism and quality craftsmanship! I will keep them in mind for any future plumbing issues. Then told me the cost which was cheaper than what I had been quoted by another plumber. Grabbed some stuff from the truck, came back and fixed the issue in about 30 minutes.
